Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster Reunite for Beaver

Jodie Foster directs Mel Gibson in ‘The Beaver’

They’ve both courted controversy, and notched up many column inches over the years: she’s the child star who shot to fame with her performance as a prostitute in Taxi Driver and he’s Hollywood’s darling who fell from grace with a drunken rant and some suspicious racist comments.

But now, after a break of 11 years, Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson, who starred together in The Maverick (1994), are reunited for a film called The Beaver – the title alone looks set to give legions of teenage boys and lovers of the double entendre plenty to snigger at.  Pictures emerged last week of Gibson and his co-star – a toy beaver.  Gibson plays a lonely man who uses his best friend, a glove puppet to help him communicate.  The film due for release in 2011 is Foster’s third as a director.
