Brittany Murphy Dies of a Heart Attack
The bubbly blonde star who made her name alongside Alicia Silverstone in ‘Clueless’ was declared dead at 10am (Los Angeles time) yesterday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to the hospital.Aged just 32, it is believed that Murphy was rushed to hospital after collapsing in the shower having suffered from cardiac arrest.
Murphy had enjoyed success as a child star on the stage and by the age of 13 she’d landed a role in the US TV series Blossom. With her star on the ascendant her performance in the popular feature film, Clueless, set her on track to make the transition from child to adult actor. Subsequent roles in films such as Girl Interrupted, alongside Winona Ryder and 8 Mile with controversial rapper Eminem – Murphy’s one time boyfriend – really established her versatility as an actress. She also starred alongside Ashton Kutcher, her then boyfriend in Just Married.
She took on a starring role in Bruce Willis’ action-packed Sin City but also provided the voice of Gloria, the penguin, in the hugely successful and popular family film, Happy Feet. There have been unsubstantiated rumours about Murphy’s ‘behaviour’ in the past but, with five films in the pipeline it looked like her career was back on the upward trajectory. A post mortem is due to be carried out to establish the cause of death. In the meantime tributes have been flooding in from stars and fans alike who all try to come to terms with her shocking and unexpected death.
