Shutter Island out on DVD on 2nd August
There’s a definite dark and gothic feel to the story with the art direction and cinematography whipping up plenty of atmosphere, conspiracy and more than a hint of noir.
Genre: drama/mystery/thriller
Martin Scorsese’s latest movie is an adaptation from Dennis Lehane’s novel. Set in the 50s it tells the story of the search for a child murderer (Emily Mortimer) who has escaped from a remote hospital for the criminally insane. Leonardo Di Caprio plays Marshall Teddy Daniels, who is tasked with investigating the mysterious disappearance alongside his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). Once inside the prison it soon becomes clear that nothing is what it seems and the sinister Dr Cawley (Ben Kingsley) with his colleague, Dr Naehring (Max Von Sydow) most definitely have something to hide. There’s a definite dark and gothic feel to the story with the art direction and cinematography whipping up plenty of atmosphere, conspiracy and more than a hint of noir.
