Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet voted best ever screen couple

The Titanic couple have beaten Gone With the Wind in a new poll to become the people’s favourite ever screen couple.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, stars of James Cameron’s 1997 epic, ‘Titanic’, have been voted the most romantic screen couple of all time, pushing Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh from 1939’s ‘Gone With the Wind’ into second place.

More than 500,000 people were asked for their favourite film choices and characters for ABC TV and People magazine. Of those, nearly one quarter voted for the ‘Titanic’ stars alone.

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts snatched third place in the poll, for their chemistry in ‘Pretty Woman’ (1990).

Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman came forth, for their classic pairing in ‘Casablanca’, from 1942.

In fifth place came Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. The pair were notable for their intense off-screen affair, as well as starring in nine film together during their careers, including ‘Woman of the Year’ in 1942 ‘Adam’s Rib’ in 1949.
