The late Dame Taylor's prized collection of jewellery, art and designer clothing will be shown around the world, prior to auction in September.Christie’s auction house have announced there is to be a three month tour of the world for Dame Elizabeth Taylor’s collection of jewellery, art and clothing.
Beginning in September, the tour will take in Moscow, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva, Paris and Hong Kong, before climaxing with a ten-day exhibition at Christie’s Rockefeller centre gallery in New York, before four days of auctions take place there. A collection of art will also be sold at the Christie's Impressionist and Modern Art sales in London in February 2012.
Marc Porter, of Christie’s told the BBC: “The global tour and exhibition of her collection at Christie's will be a window into the world of a true icon, a rare woman who was at once an international film and fashion star, loving mother, successful businesswoman, and generous humanitarian. This collection of her many cherished possessions will bring us closer to the essence of Elizabeth Taylor's unique spirit, and promises to inspire admiration, delight and, at times, sheer wonder in all who come to see it.”
All proceeds from the tour will go to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
The star, who was famed for her performances in ‘National Velvet’ and ‘Cleopatra’, as well as her marriages to Richard Burton, and her friendship with Michael Jackson, passed away in March, after suffering congestive heart failure.
