Voicing no regrets about her work in soap operas, Kanakaredes told SOAP OPERA DIGEST (October 13, 1998): "What's so nice is that a daytime fan is fan forever, which is sweet."
"Not everybody can deal with what happens as the rocket sled takes off. Melina's unaffected demeanor has not changed," --"Providence" producer-director Mike Fresco quoted in US, April 1999
". . . part of what I love about living in New York so much--there's such a mix of people and cultures. Here, it's such a one-business town. You try to keep your own identity as long as you can." --Melina Kanakaredes quoted in US, April 1999
Kanakaredes has become noted for the research she does before filming. For "Leaving L.A.", she visited the Los Angeles Coroner's Office and for "Providence", she visited with several L.A.-based plastic surgeons. "That's the cool part of being an actor. Just finding yourself in situations you've never thought you'd be in. What possesses me to make this research intense? You learn from that stuff. It certainly makes your characters more interesting." --From NEW YORK VUE, DAILY NEWS, January 3-9, 1999
Canice Kennedy, a casting director from Pittsburgh recalled to the PROVIDENCE JOURNAL (Janaury 3, 1999): "She's breathtaking, and the talent is obvious. But what is not obvious is that she is so genuine. She comes from an extraordinary family. She has remained a wonderful human being. That's what I find so attractive."
