Bette Midler, in her first non-benefit performance in seven years, performed a 40-minute show of standards and new songs for an invited industry audience at the world premiere of "For the Boys" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on November 14, 1991. The live show was directed by Joe Layton, who staged the film's musical numbers, with an 18-piece orchestra conducted by Jack Sheldon.
