Assigned by the minister of atomic power to escort famed atomic physicist Dr. Spiegel to a NATO conference in London, happy-go-lucky civil servant Dick Lanchester stops to flirt with Susan Turner, daughter of a racehorse owner. Dr. Spiegel, a turncoat, sees his chance to escape the country with some secret microfilm while Dick's attention is diverted. Waiting for Spiegel are his confederates, but he mistakenly gets into the horse van being driven by Susan to the racetrack. The frightened horse rears, Spiegel drops the film in the hay, and the animal swallows it. Following the horse's victory at the races, it is put up for auction. Dick, who has since learned of Spiegel's attempted defection, is outbid by the spies because his superior refuses to give him proper authorization to purchase the horse. As the spies escape with the mare to an abandoned airfield, Dick and Susan give chase. They recover the horse, capture the spies, and eventually retrieve the film in the course of nature.
