Based on the classic Chinese novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" written by Luo Guanzhong, first published in the 14th century.
Chow Yun-Fat left the project during the first few weeks of production and was replaced by the previously attached star Tony Leung Chiu-Wai.
Parts One and Two will be released as one film in the USA.

Project will be split into two parts for the Asian territories, with the first part scheduled for release in July 2008 and the second in January 2009. A condensed version of the two parts edited together will be released for Western audiences.
